Threads: According to co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, Threads, a competitor of Meta to Twitter, is gaining members at an incredible rate, accumulating 10 million signups in just seven hours. But the eagerly awaited new service has an intriguing catch, removing a Threads account requires also deleting the Instagram account that is linked to it.
“You may deactivate your Threads profile at any time, but your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account,” Threads’ supplemental privacy policy reads.
Deactivating your Threads account
All of your posts will continue to exist on the servers of the app even after you deactivate your Threads profile, making it invisible to other users. Only if you personally remove each of your postings one at a time from Threads’ servers will they be deleted. All of your Threads data will still be stored on the servers for up to 90 days even if you decide to delete your Instagram account.
You cannot change your Threads username without simultaneously changing your Instagram username, according to Meta. If you maintain a consistent tone throughout all of your social media profiles, that can be acceptable.
