WhatsApp: On Tuesday, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, announced that it had banned over 26 lakh accounts in India during the month of September in order to comply with the new IT Rules, 2021. These rules are now being changed in order to place additional duties on social media platforms.
The messaging network, which has close to 500 million users (according to data from a third party) in the country, received 666 complaint reports in the month of September in India. Of those records, just 23 were considered to be “actioned.”
“Our report for the month of September 2022 was just released, and it was done so in compliance with the IT Rules 2021. This user-safety report includes specifics about the user complaints that were received and the measures that corresponded to those complaints taken by WhatsApp. It also includes WhatsApp’s own preventative actions to combat abuse on our platform “a representative of the firm said thus in a statement.

Major digital and social media platforms that have more than five million users are required to provide monthly compliance reports in order to be in compliance with the updated IT Rules 2021.
