WhatsApp now lets users share HD photos; HD Video support coming soon, All details here

WhatsApp: You may now exchange high-definition (HD) photographs on WhatsApp. Days after the feature was discovered in the app’s beta version, Meta-owned WhatsApp has acknowledged that it is prepared to deliver the feature to end users. The event was formally launched by CEO Mark Zuckerberg through Instagram.

WhatsApp now lets users share HD photos

Users of WhatsApp could send images up until now at what was referred to as “standard” quality, or 1600 x 1052 pixels. By the way, that choice isn’t going away. You can now share higher-quality (HD) photographs up to a size of 4096 x 2692 pixels by using the new “HD” option or toggle when sharing photos.

In WhatsApp lingo, “HD” here refers to the full resolution of the picture. The resolution will be halved if you choose the “Standard” quality option, which requires less storage and transfers more quickly. Pixel count is one thing, compression is another. WhatsApp has been silent on compression, refusing to say how much it will apply to even those “HD” photographs. But at least they’ll be a greater resolution, which will still improve their appearance.

According to WhatsApp, support for HD photographs will be made accessible to all users globally over the course of the following few weeks on all platforms, including Android, iOS, and the web.

HD Video feature to follow

WhatsApp has acknowledged that it is aiming to add the capability of sending HD videos to the platform shortly, though a precise launch date has not yet been disclosed.
