WhatsApp: The ability to store WhatsApp data on Google Drive for free has been available to Android users since 2018. Google and WhatsApp have released a fresh announcement that indicates this practical arrangement is about to change. Read on to learn more.
WhatsApp to end unlimited Google Drive backup
Google and WhatsApp have announced today that Google Drive backups will soon be limited. Thus, the only storage you will have for backing up WhatsApp content is the 15GB that comes with your Google account, which is shared across Gmail, Drive, and Google Photos.
However, Google has stated that users who have a Google Workspace membership through their employer or educational institution will not have any impact on their storage allowance.
What did Google say?
“As an important heads up, WhatsApp backups on Android will soon start counting toward your Google Account cloud storage limit, similar to how WhatsApp backups are handled on other mobile platforms. This change will first start rolling out to WhatsApp Beta users starting in December 2023, then gradually to all WhatsApp users on Android starting early next year,” Google wrote in a blog post.
When will it go into effect?
The business has recently revealed that WhatsApp chat backups will begin depleting customers’ drive storage in December 2023. The beta users will be the first to experience the change in December, and the stable customers will start to see it in early 2024.
