WhatsApp: Starting on October 24, WhatsApp will no longer support a select number of Android and iOS smartphones. WhatsApp will stop supporting Android smartphones running Android OS 5.0 or lower, according to the official website of the Meta-owned company. As the platform’s functionality and user interface are continuously updated, it occasionally does this. As a result, outdated devices no longer receive support. Read on to learn more.
WhatsApp to stop working on THESE devices
Android smartphones must have OS 5.1 or higher in order to use WhatsApp. iOS 12 and subsequent versions are compatible with WhatsApp for iPhone users. To use WhatsApp without any issues, a handset running KaiOS version 2.5.0 or a more recent release is required, which powers devices like the JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
WhatsApp will send users a notification advising them of the end of support for the devices before doing so. A possible operating system update will also be recommended to users.
Devices that will stop supporting WhatsApp
- HTC One
- LG Optimus G Pro
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Sony Xperia Z
- HTC Desire HD
Due to this, users of these phones won’t be able to operate WhatsApp apps, or at least the most recent version of WhatsApp after October 24. It should be noted that earlier versions of WhatsApp won’t have the newest features and will be less protected against hackers and breaches because they haven’t received security updates.
