Why is Fossil exiting the smartwatch business?
Fossil Group’s spokesperson Amanda Castelli told The Verge, “As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business. Fossil Group is redirecting resources to support our core strength and the core segments of our business that continue to provide strong growth opportunities for us: designing and distributing exciting traditional watches, jewellery, and leather goods under our own as well as licensed brand names.”
Given that some Redditors had been speculating about Fossil’s departure and that the company was allegedly waiting for a new chipset, it’s possible that the news of Fossil’s retirement won’t come as a great surprise to anyone.
Good news for current users
Though the company is leaving the smartwatch market, Fossil promised to keep its current Wear OS-powered watches updated “for the next few years.” To provide users with a seamless experience, let’s hope that the upgrades for these watches are free of issues.
