Xiaomi: To produce and export phones for the Chinese corporation, smartphone maker Xiaomi has teamed up with contract manufacturer Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd. Xiaomi has alerted the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Dixon’s plan to assemble and export Xiaomi smartphones, according to IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The partners will research component production, according to agency reports.
Xiaomi in India
Xiaomi formerly held the top spot in the Indian smartphone industry without a rival, but it has since waned in the face of increased regulatory scrutiny and fierce competition. Chinese enterprises, notably Xiaomi, have been targeted by Indian state authorities, prompting some of them to look into production partnerships with regional partners in an effort to gain New Delhi’s goodwill.
Contract manufacturers in India with aspirations to become global suppliers, like Dixon and Optiemus Electronics Ltd., benefit from winning business from well-known brands like Xiaomi. Recently, Xiaomi announced that Optiemus will manufacture its Bluetooth neckband earbuds, marking the first time an Indian supplier will produce an audio product for the Beijing-based business. Dixon already produces smart television sets for Xiaomi.
