YouTube testing game service called 'Playables', open to select users right now, Details

YouTube: YouTube has debuted “Playables,” a gaming experience that is sure to excite its massive user base. This news confirms previous rumours that surfaced in June when YouTube undertook internal testing of this intriguing function.

YouTube Playables: What exactly is it?

Playables are “games that can be played directly on YouTube on both desktop and mobile devices.” This new feature promises easy and interesting entertainment, making it especially appealing to customers searching for short gaming sessions. These games are more likely to be arcade-style than high-end, triple-A releases.

What types of games are available?

While the specifics of the games available to early testers are being kept under wraps, there has been talk of a game called “Stack Bounce.” This unique title entails destroying bricks with a bouncing ball, similar to old-school arcade classics. More details of the games available will be disclosed once the platform is accessible to more users or gets launched officially.

The experiment comes less than a year after Google announced that it would discontinue its cloud gaming service Stadia due to a lack of traction, most likely due to competition from Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia’s GeForce Now.

While YouTube’s gaming feature isn’t ground-breaking, its careful approach may be its greatest asset.
