Anand Mahindra recently shared a video of his e-rupee transaction with a local fruit vendor on Twitter. Mahindra claims that one of the first businesses in India to accept such payments is fruit vendor Bachche Lal Sahani.

“At the Reserve Bank’s board meeting today, I learned about the @RBI digital currency-the e-rupee. Right after the meeting I visited Bachche Lal Sahani, a nearby fruit vendor who is one of the first merchants to accept it. #DigitalIndia in action! (Got great pomegranates as well!),” Anand Mahindra wrote while sharing the video.The tweet has received more than 1.4 million views since it was shared a day ago, and the numbers are still rising. Several people flocked to the comments section as well to express their opinions.
What is E-rupee?
The opening scene of the video that is gradually gaining popularity features Anand Mahindra buying pomegranates from Sahani. He scans a QR code to give him digital rupees as the video goes on. He shows the vendor the screen of his phone after making a successful payment, and the vendor nods in agreement. A loud audio confirmation from the soundbox is also audible near the end. “Digital rupees of 200 successfully received,” it declares.For those who don’t know, the e-rupee is an electronic version of Indian rupees that is currently being tested in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Bhubaneswar.
