Burqa Ban: Once again, the ‘burqa’ is a hot topic on social media. This time, it’s because of a recent decision in Switzerland to ban the burqa and hijab completely starting January 1, 2025. This ban has started debates around the world about freedom of choice and cultural traditions. Recently, a young Pakistani woman made bold comments about the burqa in a viral video, sparking a fresh conversation on women’s rights and identity. Her views raised questions about the choice of wearing a burqa and mentioned Indian women’s experiences too.
Pakistani Girl’s Viral Video on Burqa Choice Sparks Debate
In a recent video uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Real Entertainment TV,’ a young Pakistani woman expressed strong and direct opinions about the burqa, gaining viral attention. When asked about Iran’s anti-hijab protests, she posed questions that have stirred many, asking, “Kya Hindustan ki Ladkiyan Apni Marzi se Parda.” She added that while government policies may play a role, society also keeps these practices alive. She went on to state that the burqa is not even a true part of Pakistani tradition, saying, “It only came here from Saudi Arabia a few decades ago.”
Many viewers found her views relatable, as she expressed that the burqa is often more of an enforced practice than a personal choice. Her words have reignited discussions on Pakistan’s complex identity issues.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s Cultural Past
The young woman didn’t stop there; she delved deeper, asking if older generations of Pakistani women ever wore the burqa. She asked, “Did our grandmothers wear the burqa?” According to her, past generations did not wear it, and they did not face harassment either. She suggested that Pakistan’s culture is divided—sometimes looking to Saudi Arabia, and other times elsewhere for its identity. Her argument challenges whether the burqa is necessary or a recent trend influenced by foreign cultures.
Netizens Applaud Pakistani Girl’s Bold Stance on Burqa
After the video of the Pakistani girl’s bold remarks on the burqa went viral, numerous netizens shared their views in the comments. One user wrote, “Bhai, jabardast sister from Pakistan. Very good talking of women empowerment in Pakistan.” Another said, “Salute to this Pakistani girl who has come forward to tell the Pakistani public about why the girls wear hijab.” A third commented, “Brave Girl. We are proud of you beti. God bless you.” A fourth praised her as “Pakistani Sherni.”
Iran’s Hijab Protests and the Demand for Freedom
The anti-hijab movement in Iran gained worldwide attention after the tragic death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in 2022, who reportedly died in police custody after being detained for wearing her hijab “improperly.” Her death became a symbol of resistance against Iran’s strict hijab laws, sparking mass protests for personal freedom.
Recently, another bold protest emerged when an Iranian university student wore a bikini on campus to challenge the hijab mandate. She was detained shortly afterward, but her act intensified calls for women’s rights and further underscored the global outcry against compulsory dress codes in Iran.
