A fisheries department official told the news agency that out of the 171 people, 160 fishermen belong to Gir Somnath and Devbhoomi Dwarka districts.

More than 700 fishermen in jails
Dawn reports that there are more than 740 Indian and Pakistani fishermen lodged in various jails for trespassing the national waters. While they have completed their sentences, these people are yet to be released. The main reason for the delay in their release is the indifference of the Indian and Pakistani officials.
Dawn says there are 113 Pakistani fishermen lodged in Delhi and Gujarat jails. All these people were arrested by the Indian authorities for trespassing into Indian territory.
Overextended stays
The newspaper says that New Delhi and Islamabad have agreed to “release and repatriate persons within one month of confirmation of their national status and completion of their sentences”.
However, 113 fishermen mentioned above continue to remain in Indian jails despite having completed their sentences. The same is the case with 654 Indian fishermen out of which, 631 are ready for their release.
