As per the Indian meteorological department (IMD), “monsoon is likely to hit Eastern India in two to three days.” The heatwave has gripped Eastern India for a long time and as per the influence of Cyclone Biparjoy, Eastern India will get respite after the arrival of monsoon. IMD has also projected severe heatwave conditions in states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Vidarbha, Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. This spell is likely to finish by the end of this week.
Distress in Rajasthan
After impacting Gujrat, cyclone moved towards Rajasthan in the midnight hours of June 16. The arrival of cyclone resulted in severe rains in many areas of Rajasthan on Saturday. Sirohi experienced 37.5 mm of rain until 5.30 p.m., Jalore 36 mm, Barmer 33.6 mm, Bikaner 26.6 mm, Dabok 13 mm, Dungarpur 12.5 mm, and Jodhpur 10.5 mm. Some cities are experiencing flood like situation. IMD has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for districts of Barmer, Jalore, and Sirohi and ‘Orange Alert’ for districts of Pali and Jodhpur.

Bihar under Red Alert
The state of Bihar is under a ‘Red Alert’ warning due to extreme heatwave conditions. Due to gravity of the situation state government has extended the summer break up till Class 12. In last three days, 44 lives in Bihar have been claimed by the severe heat. Schools in state will remain close till June 24. Interestingly, IMD had projected rainfall in parts of Delhi-NCR as a result of Cyclone Biparjoy.
