Indian Passport: Thailand has extended its visa-free entry facility for Indian nationals beyond the initial deadline of November 2024. Implemented on November 10, 2023, the visa-free entry was originally set to end on May 10, 2024, but will now continue indefinitely, according to a statement from the Tourism Authority of Thailand. This extension follows a notable increase in tourist arrivals from India.

In addition to prolonging the visa-free entry, Thailand has expanded its visa exemption window from 30 to 60 days. The updated policy now grants visa exemption to nationals from 93 countries and territories, up from 57 previously. Under this scheme, visitors can stay for tourism or short-term business purposes for up to 60 days, with an option to extend their stay by an additional 30 days at an immigration office.
Anil Punjabi from the Travel Agents Federation of India noted that the extended visa-free entry will likely boost travel from India, particularly with Thai AirAsia launching a daily flight between Calcutta and Phuket starting October 27. Another airline is also expected to start flights on this route.
Thailand has also introduced two new visa schemes: the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) and a Student Visa. The DTV is designed for remote workers, digital nomads, freelancers, and individuals participating in various activities such as Muay Thai courses, Thai cooking classes, sports training, medical treatments, seminars, and music festivals. This visa also covers spouses and dependent children of DTV holders.
