India appeals on to appoint an Indian lawyer or ‘Queens Counsel’ to ensure free and fair hearing for reconsideration of former Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav death sentence in Pakistan.
‘Queen’s Counsel’ is a barrister or advocate who is appointed for the British Queen on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor. Queens Counsel is recognized in almost all courts around the world.
Rejecting India’s demand, Pakistan has said that this is not possible at all.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Zahid Hafeez Chaudhary said in response to a question during the press conference that India has been making unreasonable demands to appoint a lawyer from outside Pakistan to defend Jadhav.
“We have informed India that only those lawyers who are licensed to practice in Pakistan are allowed to appear in Pakistani courts. No change can be made in this situation,” he said.
