Rahul Gandhi Slams PM Modi’s Silence on Manipur Violence, Prime Minister Says ‘Guilty Will Not Be Spared’

Manipur Violence

Manipur Violence: The event involving sexual assault in Manipur was denounced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. He said that “What has happened to daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven, guilty will not be spared.” Additionally, he encouraged all state heads to safeguard women’s safety. Speaking to media before the Parliament’s Monsoon session began today, Prime Minister Modi remarked, “This is a sad act for any community…Who did this and who is accountable is another matter, but our country has been embarrassed by this. I beg all chief ministers to enforce law and order more strictly. The question of a woman’s honour is above other political issues, whether it be in Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, or Manipur.

Rahul Gandhi, the head of the opposition Congress party, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday for the condition of affairs in Manipur, declaring that “India will not remain silent while the idea of India is being attacked” in the northeastern state. Gandhi made his comments in response to a video that showed two women being paraded in the naked state in ethnically violent Manipur on May 4 and that leaked on Wednesday. According to the authorities, a case of kidnapping, gang rape, and murder against unidentified armed criminals has been filed at the Nongpok Sekmai police station in the Thoubal district.

Opposition Leaders Rally Behind Manipur

“PM’s silence and inaction has led Manipur into anarchy. INDIA will not stay silent while the idea of India is being attacked in Manipur,” Gandhi said in a tweet. “We stand with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way forward,” he added. On Tuesday, 26 opposition parties gathered under the name Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) to compete against the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In response to the video, Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the images of “sexual violence against women” coming out of Manipur are heartbreaking.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra Demands Accountability

“No amount of condemnation is enough for this horrific incident of violence against women. Women and children have to bear the maximum brunt of violence in the society,” she said in a tweet in Hindi. “We must all condemn the violence in one voice while furthering the efforts for peace in Manipur,” Priyanka Gandhi said. “Why has the central government, Mr Prime Minister turned a blind eye to the violent incidents in Manipur? Do such pictures and violent incidents not disturb them?” she asked.

Mahila Congress Chief Decries Lack of Humanity

Mahila Congress chief Netta D’Souza said, “Humanity has died a thousand deaths! If this BJP govt can’t stop women from being shamed and humiliated, from being paraded naked, it simply be dismissed.” What is stopping the Modi government from imposing the President’s Rule in Manipur, she asked on Twitter.
