Viral Video: In a popular video from Bihar, a man can be seen doing sit-ups in front of a crowd. As per the reports, he allegedly raped a five-year-old girl, and his “sentence” was five sit-ups. The video has been reported to be of Bihar’s Nawada district.
Man received ‘five sit-ups’ as a punishment
A kid was allegedly lured to the man’s farm with a promise of chocolates, where the man eventually raped the girl. When the news broke out and a man was found and brought before the village’s panchayat, the elders made the decision not to turn him in and make their own judgement. They ruled that the man was innocent of rape. Many said that they he should be punished for luring a girl into an isolated location and not for rape.
Social media users have expressed outrage over a video of the “punishment,” with many pointing to it as evidence of centuries-old judicial system still prevalent in India. The viral video shows man doing situps while others present in the panchayat just looking at him as if nothing major has happened.
SP issues a clarification after video went viral
Taking to twitter, users notified Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav to the video and enquired as to whether the government would let the crime to go in this way only.
According to Superintendent of Police Gaurav Mangla, the FIR has been filed, and the accused will face consequences. Attempts to cover up the incident are also being looked into by the police, he added.
