Viral Video: In a stunning case of a honey trap that came to the fore in Karnal, a mother, father, and daughter have been arrested following a chain of fraudulent events. All this began when a college-going girl accused her lecturer of rape. The student had alleged that her lecturer offered her a ride home after she went to submit a college form. He instead allegedly drove her to an unknown place, drugged her drink, and then raped her.

The incident was first reported as a rape case, and the student was medically treated for evidence. However, the case took a surprising turn when the girl's family and the lecturer tried to bury the matter with a financial settlement. The family was said to have demanded ₹30 lakh from the lecturer if they were to withdraw the case. The settlement went down to ₹17.5 lakh after negotiations, with the lecturer first handing over ₹13.5 lakhs.
He reported the extortion to the police when the remaining ₹4 lakh was demanded. The plan was laid down, and in a staged meeting, where the final payment was to be made, the police arrested the girl's family members. They were caught red-handed while they came to collect the ransom money and subsequently arrested. So far, ₹4 lakh of the amount has been recovered, while the rest of it is still to be traced.
This case presents the harshest consequences of such fraudulent schemes and how hard the legal negotiations could get in sensitive cases. The arrests underline the seriousness of both the alleged crime and the subsequent extortion attempt, reflecting a great breach of trust and legal ethics.
