Viral Video: A couple in Kerala died after their car caught fire on Thursday. The horrifying incident also involved a lady in labour as the couple travelled to the hospital when she complained of pain. Their car caught fire close to the government hospital, where they were actually heading for a checkup.

Passengers at backseat escaped unhamred

Reesha (26), a resident of the district’s Kuttiattoor region, and Prijith (35), were travelling to the hospital with four other people after she reported experiencing labour pains. When the car caught fire, the four occupants—including the toddler in the back seat—escape unharmed. The senior police official claimed that the victims appeared to have become trapped inside the blazing Maruti S-Presso, a 2020 model, since they were unable to unlock the front door.

The villagers attempted to unlock the front door of the car to free the pregnant woman and her husband who had become trapped inside but were unsuccessful. The locals can be seen on a video rushing to the flaming car and attempting to unlock the front door. Kannur City Police Commissioner Ajit Kumar, “They are not injured. They are in the hospital and they are getting checked.”

An eyewitness said that they were unable to rescue the couple because they were afraid the car’s oil tank might blow up at any moment. A local who was there at the moment told, “We were totally helpless at that time as the front side of the car was immediately engulfed in fire.” Police added that the car would be thoroughly inspected with the aid of specialists after technical experts have verified the causes of the fire.
