Viral Video: Two videos of government schools have gone viral of late and drawn huge attention and condemnation on social media. Both bring out very disturbing issues relating to school management and the behavior of teachers.
Teacher’s Aggressive Behavior Captured on Video
One of them shows a lady teacher berating and beating small children in a Government Primary School for having their mid-day meal. Shared by a user named Abhimanyu Singh, the video shows the teacher reprimanding the children harshly with the words, “If you have such an attitude, go to a public school, don’t eat mid-day meal here. You don’t earn two hundred rupees in the whole day and you have such an attitude.” People expressed outrage at the teacher’s aggression and condemned the use of violence and harsh words on the students.
Teacher Using Students as Hand Fan in Aligarh School
The other viral video is of another teacher from a primary school of Gokulpur village in Aligarh. The same Abhimanyu Singh shared this video in which the teacher relaxes, completing her sleep and asking the children to operate a hand fan to comfort her. As depicted in the video, she was actually using children to cool herself during extreme heat instead of doing her work.
The two videos raise wider concerns of accountability and professionalism in the education system and point out that there is a lack of stronger supervision over teachers to ensure students get proper care and respect. The videos have been fast-tracked to the public’s attention, thus providing a reminder of the plight of government schools and how they require a rapid systemic change.
