Viral Video: On Friday, December 1, a vegetable vendor in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, lost both of his legs after being struck by a train as he was attempting to collect his items that had allegedly been dumped on the tracks by police during an anti-enrochment raid.

The man is seen pleading for help as he lies on the tracks, being rescued by police and witnesses. In the Kalyanpur area of Kanpur, the incident took place. An eyewitness said that the victim went to the rails to retrieve his things and his scale after the cops reportedly dumped them on the tracks. He was struck by an approaching train at this point.
Locals alleged that the street vendors were chased off GT Road by Indira Nagar police station in-charge Shadab Khan and head constable Rakesh Kumar.

Police suspends the accused constable
UP West DGP Vijay Dhul said, “Prima facie, it appears that Head Constable Rakesh Kumar showed negligent behaviour. He has been suspended. We are inquiring into the incident.”

According to the police, the event took place during a neighborhood-level anti-encroachment drive. He continued by saying that recordings captured by bystanders are being examined to determine the order of events.
The victim was taken to the hospital in a critical condition. Both of the victim’s legs were reportedly amputated immediately, according to the victim’s father, an auto-rickshaw driver. “He is just 20 years old. They could’ve been a bit civil if they wanted to clear the area.”
