Viral Video: Officials, in a dramatic demolition operation on Thursday, used explosives to bring down an unauthorized four-floor structure built inside Malkapur Lake, Kondapur Mandal, where one person was injured. The structure was constructed by Narasimlu, of Patancheru, as a weekend retreat for his family and featured a staircase for easy access without stepping into the water. They were making video of the demolition operation.

Illegal Structure Identified by Revenue and Irrigation Departments

The structure was determined to be an illegal one from the revenue and irrigation departments inspection team within the full tank levels of the lake. Because of the waterlogged condition, controlled explosives demolition proved to be the only viable option for demolishing the area since heavy machinery could not be accessed. Prior to demolishing the building, notice was served to the owners regarding the action that would be undertaken.

In the viral video we can see the blast was highly intense. Debris went flying in all directions. Gopal, a home guard who was part of the demolition team, was hit by the falling debris and subjected to head injuries. He was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to Hyderabad for further medical treatment. Officials say that Gopal is out of danger.

Blast Impact Causes Debris to Fly, Injuring Home Guard

Ghar Ka Kalesh shared a video of the explosion on Twitter with the moment when the structure collapsed into the lake. Officials and workers were standing on near buildings, with safety precautions being in place as the operation took about an hour.

This incident has thrown into limelight the challenges the administration faces in removing unauthorised constructions in sensitive ecologically places like Malkapur Lake. Local officials said demolitions of illegal structures would continue to protect natural water bodies and prevent future encroachments. As Gopal recuperates, this event has sparked a discussion on stronger measures and better enforcement against illegal constructions in such ecologically important areas.
