Viral Video: In order to modernize education in India, PM Modi implemented the NEP, which places an emphasis on skill development and holistic learning at all educational levels. Now, Schoolgirls from the Dongargarh village of Rajnandgaon district left in tears after their tense meeting with the District Education Officer, demanding that there be more teachers at their school. Since the incident came into light, a video of the girls pleading emotionally to people about their problems is circling on social media.
Girls Approach District Collector Over Teacher Shortage
They had come to apprise District Collector Sanjay Agarwal of their problem related to a lack of teachers for classes 11th and 12th standards at their school, which was upgraded to a Higher Secondary institution two years ago. However, no teachers were appointed for the senior classes, thus keeping the students concerned about their board exams.
They informed the Collector that though they had somehow managed to pass the 11th standard without teachers, it would be difficult to prepare for the crucial 12th standard board exams. Convinced by their problem, the Collector promised that teachers would be arranged within two days and asked them to submit their representation to the DEO.
Threats and Scolding
But when he got the memorandum written by students in hand, the DEO reacted angrily and gave a piece of his mind to the girls for their demands. The memorandum had threatened that if teachers were not appointed within three days, the students would stage a protest and lock the school. Scolding the students, the DEO even asked who had taught them to write such a letter, even warning them with imprisonment.
A video of girls visibly in a state of distress and tearful ever since went viral, brought into sharp focus the grey areas that persist in the education system and the desperate struggle of students for their right to education.
