Viral Video: A few hours after a video showing two employees of a veterinary clinic abusing a dog went viral on social media, the Manpada police in Thane investigated the incident and filed a report. According to the police, they have filed a noncognizable offence complaint against the two males.
Viral Video Sparks Outrage
Officials from the police department said that on Tuesday morning, a video showing two employees of a veterinary clinic beating and kicking a dog inside the clinic’s grounds went viral on social media. Nilesh Bhanage, the founder of NGO PAWS and an animal enthusiast, stated, “It appears that parents of the dog had gone out of station for a wedding and kept their dog at the clinic during which the incident took place.”
Social Media Upload Sparks Controversy
The video was apparently filmed by one of the two employees, who then uploaded it to their Snapchat accounts. “From there it was picked up by an activist, following which it went viral on social media,” said Bhanage.
Numerous lawmakers, celebrities, and animal lovers denounced the two’s act and demanded that the authorities take strong action against them. Following their identification, the two clinic employees—Mayur Michael Aadhav, 19, and Prashant Sanjay Gaikwad, 20—were brought to the police station.
Police Report Non-Cognizable Offence
Afterwards, the Manpada police station reported a non-cognizable offence under section 11 (1) of the Animal Cruelty Act. The officials stated that the pet clinic’s owners were forced to close on Tuesday due to a group of political activists and animal lovers staging a demonstration outside the facility.
