Viral Video: Following videos showing factory workers fighting with security officers during protests, Foxconn on Wednesday admitted that “violence” had broken out at its massive plant in central China. The company denied when asked whether it was hiring new employees with other Covid-positive employees at the Zhengzhou factory, the world’s largest manufacturer of iPhones, but acknowledged that workers had complained about wages and working conditions at the facility.
Company officials respond after video gets viral
In footage posted on Weibo and Twitter, hundreds of employees can be seen walking in broad daylight on a road, with some being accosted by riot police and those wearing hazardous suits.
In an official statement, The company has confirmed that, “Regarding any violence, the company will continue to communicate with employees and the government to prevent similar incidents from happening again.”
Company has been operating in bubble due to Corona
An increase in Covid-19 cases at the Taiwanese tech giant’s Zhengzhou facility prompted the company to close the enormous complex in an attempt to stop the virus. The company is Apple’s primary subcontractor. Since then, the enormous “iPhone City” facility with its 200,000 employees has operated in a “closed loop” bubble.
This month, footage of terrified employees running away from the site on foot as a result of claims that the company had inadequate working conditions went viral.
