Viral Video: During a visit to a clinic, a 64-year-old woman from Taiwan who was experiencing difficulty owing to odd sounds in her left ear received a stunning revelation. The woman had spent four sleepless nights due to a constant cacophony of thumping, clicking, and rustling within her ear, coupled by an unsettling impression of movement. She sought the help of an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) clinic to alleviate her troubling symptoms. During her examination, doctors uncovered an unexpected discovery: a spider had apparently forced its way into her ear canal, replete with its discarded exoskeleton.
The spider was removed by surgeon
The surgeons quickly removed the spider and its exoskeleton using a specialist tube, relieving the woman’s agony. During this strange encounter, her eardrum was reportedly not damaged.
Following that, the medical team at Taiwan’s Tainan Municipal Hospital reported the woman’s unusual experience in a case report published in the New England Journal of Medicine. They also reinforced their report with a video published on the platform X (formerly Twitter) outlining the woman’s symptoms and condition.
Doctor says this on the matter
Dr. Tengchin Wang, co-author of the case study and director of the otolaryngology department at Tainan Municipal Hospital, stressed that the woman did not experience pain because of the spider’s small size. According to NBC News, Jerry Rovner, an emeritus biology professor at Ohio University, hypothesised that the spider sought refuge within the woman’s ear for the purpose of moulting, a period during which they are vulnerable to predators and seek a secure location.
