The video opens innocently enough, with a young man calling out to a black stray dog and calling it “Kaalu,” a typical name for dogs with dark fur in India. But the joke, which at first appeared to be lighthearted, soon became more serious as the dog became obviously upset. People in India have a custom of giving stray dogs nicknames based on their physical characteristics. For example, a black dog may be called Kaalu, while a brown dog is called Bhoora.
The dog can be seen grunting and displaying other signs of distress throughout the video, even as the young person keeps referring to it as “Kaalu.” According to experts, animals can be sensitive to what they perceive as insults or teasing, just like people, particularly if they have had unpleasant interactions with people in the past.

The dog becomes increasingly impatient as the teasing continues. Abruptly, the dog lunges and bites the young man on the leg, causing chaos and screams. The bite acts as a harsh reminder of how important it is to respect and recognise the boundaries of animals.

After the video went viral, internet users had a variety of responses. Some showed sympathy for the dog by bringing up cautionary tales that were disregarded. “He was giving warning signs, but they didn’t stop!” said one user. Another said, “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction!” emphasising the idea of cause and effect.
A user humorously suggested, “Usko vo racist laga hoga with laughing emoji,” meaning that the dog might have taken offence to the name “Kaalu.” Other users also used humour to criticise the situation. But among the jokes, there were also serious voices calling for improved animal care. Another user underlined, “People should treat animals with love; otherwise, you will see the consequences.”
