Odisha Viral Video: A disturbing incident involving an Army officer and his fiancée in Bhubaneswar has gained widespread attention after a video went viral, revealing shocking details of their ordeal. The incident, which took place at Bharatpur police station, has raised serious concerns about police misconduct and the treatment of women. The woman has accused the police of physical assault and sexual misconduct when they went to file a complaint after being attacked by hooligans.
The Harrowing Incident – Assault on Army Officer and Fiancée
On the night of September 14, an Army officer from the 22 Sikh Regiment in Kolkata and his fiancée were returning home in Bhubaneswar when they were waylaid by a group of miscreants. After fending off the attackers, the couple approached Bharatpur police station to file a complaint.
According to the woman’s account, they were met with shocking indifference and hostility at the station. The only officer present at the time, a female constable in civilian clothing, refused to assist them. Matters escalated when male officers arrived and instead of helping, they allegedly detained the Army officer and subjected the woman to verbal abuse.
Allegations of Police Misconduct and Assault
The fiancée claims that when she objected to her partner being unlawfully detained, she was physically assaulted by two female officers. Despite trying to defend herself, she was overpowered, tied up, and left in a room. What followed next, as she recounted in the viral video, has sent shockwaves through the public. She alleged that a male police officer repeatedly kicked her in the chest and sexually assaulted her. She also accused the Inspector-in-charge of making obscene gestures during the ordeal.
Police Response and Contradicting Claims
While the woman has detailed these horrific allegations, the police have offered a different version of events. They claim the couple was intoxicated and had attacked an on-duty officer. Further, they allege that the two had vandalized property inside the station, leading to the arrest of the fiancée. She was granted bail by the Orissa High Court after.
In light of the serious nature of these allegations, Odisha Police have suspended five officers, including an Inspector-rank officer, for “gross misconduct”. The Director-General of Police (DGP) has also directed the Crime Branch to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.
Medical Treatment and National Attention
Following the alleged assault, the woman received medical treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, where she was treated for injuries, including a possible fracture. The viral video of her recounting the abuse, with visible injuries and emotional distress, has sparked national outrage.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken swift action, demanding a report from the police and calling for urgent disciplinary measures. Meanwhile, the Chandaka Police Station has filed a separate complaint to investigate the couple’s initial claim of being harassed by hooligans on their way home.

As this case unfolds, it has stirred a significant public outcry, with calls for accountability and justice for the Army officer and his fiancée. Odisha Police’s Crime Branch is now leading the investigation to ascertain the truth behind both the couple’s allegations and the police’s defense.
