Viral Video: The hippopotamus is the world’s third-largest animal after elephants and rhinos. The semi-aquatic animal, despite its friendly appearance, is infamous for being aggressive due to its unpredictable behavior. Undated video of a hippo in a zoo almost escaping its enclosure has gone viral. In the video, a man who appears to be a security guard can be seen lightly slapping the large animal in an attempt to push it back into the water. The hippo responds by opening its mouth in a display of power. The guard strikes it once more without seeming to be deterred. The hippo eventually turns around and leaves.
Video went viral
On Twitter, the video has received over four million views since it was supposedly captured in the Delhi Zoo. While many questioned the morality of keeping wild animals in captivity, many also questioned how a large animal like a hippo could be so close to visitors.
Users are reacting on video
In a tweet about the video, one user said,“Hitting an animal is wrong. One should never hit an animal. Animals should not be held captive. Animals should be in sanctuaries for the protection of the animals not for human pleasure.”
A Twitter user commented on the guard’s behaviour and wrote, “Im confused why he thinks hitting this animal is useful and also how the animal is able to get this close to the visitors with no fencing or barrier.”
