Viral Video: With Diwali festival approaching, the debate over firecrackers has resurfaced, as discussions around pollution and tradition ignite once again. This time, popular religious leader and Bageshwar Dham priest Dhirendra Shashtri has weighed in, adding his perspective to the topic. In a recent viral video, he expressed his thoughts on the restrictions imposed on Hindu festivals like Diwali and compared it to the celebration of Bakrid.
Dhirendra Shashtri Speaks Out on Diwali and Firecrackers
In the viral video, Dhirendra Shashtri shares his concerns about restrictions that often target Hindu festivals. He says, “Ye durbhagya hai ki jab bhi koi Hindu dharm ka tyohar aata hai toh koi kanoon ka danda dikhata hai, rok lagata hai, rok lagane ki maang karta hai. Kal hi maine ek news dekha jisme koi keh raha hai ki jitne diye mein tel aur ghee dale jaate hain, utne mein gareebon ka bhala ho sakta hai.” (It is unfortunate that every time a Hindu festival comes around, restrictions and rules are imposed, with some demanding bans. Just yesterday, I saw someone say that the money spent on oil and ghee for lamps could be used to help the poor.)
He continues, “Hum kehna chahte hain ki is desh mein Bakrid bhi toh hoti hai. Bakrid band karwa do, jitne rupaye ka bakra kata jata hai, wo bachega. Use gareebon ko baant do. Jeev hinsa bhi nahi hogi.” (We want to say that Bakrid also happens in this country. Ban Bakrid, and save the money spent on sacrificing goats. Distribute that money to the poor, and there will be no animal killing.)
Dhirendra Shashtri also criticises what he calls double standards, stating, “Ek vyakti ne kaha ki patakhon se pradushan hota hai. Lekin 1 January ko inka gyaan gayab ho jata hai. Happy New Year par duniya bhar mein patakhe phode jaate hain.” (Someone said firecrackers cause pollution, but on January 1, this awareness disappears. Fireworks are set off worldwide to celebrate the New Year.)
Social Media Reactions to Dhirendra Shashtri’s Viral Remarks
The viral video, uploaded on Bageshwar Dham’s official X account, @bageshwardham, has triggered a range of reactions. Several social media users applauded his stance. One user commented, “Some people are secretly trying to destroy Indian culture.”
Another wrote, “Jai Ho Baba Bageshwar Sarkar Ki! Patakha ban par Bageshwar Baba ji ne bahut sahi jawab diya, kaha ‘Hinduo ke tyoharon par shadyantra jari hai. Holi-Diwali par gyaan diya jata hai, lekin koi Bakrid par sawal kyun nahi uthata?’”
As the video continues to gain views and spark discussions, it reflects the larger conversation on how festivals are celebrated and regulated, raising questions about cultural practices and traditions in a diverse society.
