Viral Video: The bustling capital of Kolkata, West Bengal, has been paralysed as thousands of medical professionals and students in white coats have taken to the streets to express their outrage at the cruel rape and death of a young female trainee doctor. As investigations proceed, disturbing information about this incident—now known as the Kolkata Rape Case—have emerged, sending shockwaves through the nation. The heartbreaking story shared by the victim’s family has gone viral and touched a deep chord with many.
Victim’s Family Shares Heartbreaking Testimony
In an interview with “The Lallantop,” the family of the deceased doctor revealed their intense pain in a video that went viral and received a lot of attention on social media. They detailed the unspeakable cruelty their daughter endured at the hands of the the accused, including a horrifying assault that left her eye shattered by glass and eventual brutal murder. The family’s testimony describes the horrific events, including how they hurried to the scene as soon as they heard the news and were forced to wait hours before seeing their daughter’s body.
When they eventually arrived to her, they discovered her deceased body in a completely destroyed state. The family said she was naked, with obvious facial injuries, an abnormally bent leg, and blood dripping from glass injuries in her eyes. In addition, they saw indications that she had been strangled. The family has pleaded for justice and asked the President and Prime Minister Modi to get involved in this tragic situation.
Shocking Crime at RG Kar Medical College
The horrifying incident took place on the night of August 8 and continued into the early hours of August 9, when Sanjoy Roy, the accused, allegedly raped and strangled the postgraduate student and trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The case, which initially saw little progress under local police, has now been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) following intervention by the Calcutta High Court. The court’s decision came amid concerns that local authorities were failing to handle the case effectively and might even destroy crucial evidence.
Medical Community Rises in Protest
The medical community has shown tremendous support for Kolkata and the entire country in the wake of this awful incident. A comprehensive inquiry into the incident and a safer working environment are being demanded by resident doctors and medical personnel from many institutions, including AIIMS Delhi, who have taken to the streets. The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association has demanded that protests go on until a national law is created to shield medical professionals from harm.
