Viral Video: In a world where viral videos can spark both admiration and criticism, an Indian mom drying clothes on the balcony of a luxurious Dubai hotel has done just that. Pallavi Venkatesh recently shared a video on Instagram showcasing her mother hanging laundry on the balcony of Atlantis, The Palm, a renowned five-star resort in Dubai. This seemingly ordinary act has ignited a flurry of responses, ranging from humorous “desi parents” comments to serious critiques.
Viral Video Sparks Mixed Reactions
The Indian mom is seen cautiously hanging a pair of shorts on the balcony railing in the viral video, which is captioned “Moms just momming at Palm Atlantis.” Following that, as the camera pans, another balcony with sun-dried clothing is shown. 7 days after it was uploaded, the video has received an incredible 11.1 million views, 170,000 likes, and more than 900 comments.
Social Media Reactions
Different responses have been sparked by the viral video. A number of users promptly criticised the conduct. One comment read, “This is bad manners in other countries. Respect the rules of the hotel that you are staying in.” On the other hand, many defended the mom, highlighting the practical need to dry clothes, especially swimwear and undergarments. A supportive comment stated, “Clothes need sun drying… If hotels don’t understand it, they are failing.”
Hotel’s Response
In the comments section, Atlantis, The Palm skillfully handled the matter. The hotel informed customers about the services and praised the mother’s “mom duties.” With an applauding emoji, the official hotel account said, “Mom duties, We hope you enjoyed your stay! (We include a retractable drying cord in every bathroom, so that you can dry your clothing over the bath).”
Dubai’s Strict Regulations on Drying Laundry
To preserve the city’s visual attractiveness, officials in Dubai have strict laws against hanging clothing on balconies. In 2021, the Dubai Municipality urged residents to abstain from these actions. This regulation applies to everyone, even those staying at hotels.
