The Indian football team has achieved the distinction of becoming the winner in the SAFF Championship (SAFF Championship 2023) by performing brilliantly. Sunil Chhetri’s team defeated Kuwait in a tense final played at the Sree Kanteeveera Stadium in Bangalore. After the match was equal to 1-1 till the stipulated time, when the decision was not taken even in the extra time, the penalty was resorted to, in which India won 5-4.
India wins SAFF Championship
Kuwait took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of the match with the help of Shabib Al Khalidi’s goal, which was equalized by India in the 38th minute through Lalianzuala Chengte. This is the 9th SAFF Championship title for the Indian team. The tournament was a special contribution for the captain of the Indian team, Sunil Chhetri. Where the Indian team became the winner in this, Captain Chhetri won the Golden Boot and Golden Ball award. Football lovers present at the Kanteveera Stadium got to see a fierce competition on Tuesday. There was a fierce struggle between the two teams in the stipulated time but the matter remained equal to 1-1. During the penalty shootout, the breath of the spectators kept going up and down.
As soon as the Indian team won the shootout, the happiness of these fans knew no bounds. He filled the stadium with the spirit of patriotism by singing ‘Vande Mataram’. Sunil Chhetri was also seen matching his tune. The video of Indian sports fans singing Vande Mataram is viral on social media. Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh also made some excellent saves in the last minute. After the match, the players lifted Chhetri on their shoulders and tossed him in the crowd. Chhetri has been outstanding in this tournament as always.
