Viral Video: Recently, a press conference was held by the Agriculture Ministry in Lucknow, the capital of UP. Agriculture Minister’s Reaction Raises Eyebrows

In a video posted by an X (formerly Twitter) user named Sanjay Tripathi, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi can be heard commenting on pulse prices. When journalists asked about the rising cost of pulses, the minister claimed that the price of pulses is not more than 100 rupees per kilogram anywhere. After this, the Agriculture Minister is seen smiling along with his associate Minister of State, Baldev Singh Aulakh. The video of this entire incident is rapidly spreading on social media.

Viral Video Sparks Public Outrage

Netizens were quick to highlight the irony of the situation: the state’s agriculture minister seemed unaware of the current prices of such essential commodities. The minister’s unbothered demeanor and smile following the mistake only added fuel to the fire, causing further discontent among the public.

What is the reality?

In UP and various parts of the country, pulse prices are currently skyrocketing. While the UP Agriculture Minister claims that pulse prices are not more than 100 rupees per kilogram anywhere, the reality is quite different. According to retail markets in various parts of the country, the price of Arhar Dal ranges from 165 to 185 rupees per kilogram. Moong Dal is priced between 120 to 145 rupees per kilogram, Urad Dal between 135 to 150 rupees per kilogram, Chana Dal between 80 to 100 rupees per kilogram. On online platforms, pulse prices are even higher.
