Viral Video: The Bhagavad Gita teaches that everyone is a child of God and that God loves everyone equally. However, the recent Ganpati Visarjan 2024 event at Lalbaugcha Raja Pandal in Mumbai suggests that in Kalyug, this message is being lost. Netizens are shocked and outraged over a viral video that is making rounds on social media. The widely shared video shows security personnel violently pushing general worshippers while VIPs are standing peacefully with their families and posing for pictures unhindered. Social media users are furious at this evident discrepancy during Ganpati Visarjan 2024 event.

Several devotees expressed their dissatisfaction and annoyance with the expanding VIP culture at religious gatherings on social media. Karthik Nadar, a user on X (previously Twitter), shared the viral video incident at Lalbaugcha Raja Pandal in Mumbai, which sparked intense debates online. One user commented, “Without the misbehave as we can see in the video… Things can be handled by verbal speech too.” Another pointed out, “It has already lost the essence, just like every religious place with VIP culture as their private party.” Yet another user expressed anger, stating, “This is very shameful, one family is taking photos there and others are thrown out like trash.”

VIP Treatment Divides Devotees

The incident demonstrates the widening gap that exists at religious festivals such as Lalbaugcha Raja Pandal between the average crowd and VIPs. During Ganpati Visarjan, devotees flock to seek blessings from Lord Ganesha; yet, many common worshippers feel neglected as a result of the VIP treatment.

Repeated Incidents Fueling Frustration

There have been previous instances of this kind of incident making news. The Madras High Court recognised the mounting dissatisfaction with the VIP culture at religious places in 2022 and stated, “People are frustrated with VIP culture, more specifically in closed premises like temples, as the devotees are made to suffer on account of special darshan to VIPs and other important persons. People are lamenting and in fact cursing.”
