No ambulances were allowed inside the Balata camp, Reuters said.
The Times of Israel reported that six people were wounded in this incident. It also said that one person was shot in the back while he was running away from the Israeli forces.
However, no news of Israeli casualties has come from the Israeli Defense Force or the IDF.
Another Israeli newspaper, Haaretz quoted the Palestinian Health Ministry as saying three Palestinians were wounded in a firefight with the Israeli forces.
West Bank – A landlocked piece of land
Most of the clashes between the Palestinians and the Israelis occur in West Bank. This is a land-locked, mostly Palestinian-occupied territory surrounded by Israel, Jordan and the Dead Sea.
West Bank is governed by both Palestinians and Israelis. While the former control their civilian matters, the Israelis are responsible for peace and security in this narrow strip of land.
However, the Palestinians don’t live in a contiguous area; there are more than 160 Palestinian ‘islands’ separated by Israeli settlements.West Bank came into Israeli control in 1967 after a six-day war with Jordan. Since then, the Palestinians and Tel Aviv have always been in fighting over who would control this territory.
Origin of Israel
Many Arabs believe Israel is an illegal entity and mustn’t be allowed to exist. Israel came into being on May 14, 1948, when the British Government withdrew its forces from the ‘Palestinian’ mandate. The new country was immediately invaded by 5 Arab countries but Israel defended itself against that attack. Ever since, the Israelis and the Palestinians have been in conflict.
