India Canada Relations: A new development has surfaced in the strained India-Canada relations. Recently, Canadian police arrested a fourth individual in connection with a pro-Khalistani attack on Hindu devotees at a temple in Brampton. This arrest follows widespread criticism from India and international calls for Canada to take a stronger stance against anti-India activities within its borders.
Another Arrest in Brampton Temple Attack Linked to Khalistani Protest
The latest arrest involves 35-year-old Inderjeet Gosal, a resident of Brampton, Canada, who has been charged with assault with a weapon for his involvement in the violent incident outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir. The pro-Khalistani demonstration, initially organised to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, quickly escalated into an attack on Hindu devotees gathered at the temple.
India-Canada Relations Worsen Amid Rising Tensions
India responded strongly to the attack, pressing Canada to act decisively against anti-India groups operating within its borders. The incident, which drew criticism worldwide, intensified scrutiny on Canada’s approach to managing extremist activities. This situation has put additional pressure on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with many questioning whether his administration is doing enough to address concerns over safety and diplomatic relations.
Mass Protests Following the Attack Deepen India-Canada Crisis
The Brampton temple attack led to widespread protests, with both Hindu and Sikh communities gathering outside the temple and in two other locations in Mississauga. Demonstrators called for accountability and stressed the need for stronger action to protect communities and maintain peace.
Is Justin Trudeau Facing the Heat?
The recent escalation has placed Justin Trudeau under the global spotlight. As world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong, condemned the attack on Hindus in Canada. Several Canadian MPs have also voiced concern over the incident, emphasizing the need for swift action to protect vulnerable communities.
