One should not touch the Kanwars before taking a bath and getting oneself completely clean. As Kanwars are considered holy, touching it before cleaning oneself is impure.

It is advised that one should avoid eating Non-veg food in Sawan. Therefore, one who is taking part in the Kanwar Yatra must not eat Meat.

It is advised to the believers to not put the Holy Kanwars on the ground, as it is considered offensive to Lord Shiva. If for any reason you're leaving the Kanwar behind for some time, then you should keep it at a higher place.
