Mass shooting: In yet another incident of mass shooting, four people were shot on Wednesday evening at the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas, police said. One person was killed and three others were injured in the shooting, reports quoted police as saying. Police arrested one accused and were looking for another possible suspect.
“We have one person in custody. We do believe there could be one outstanding. That’s why the extensive search of the mall is being done right now,” police spokesman Robert Gomez was quoted as saying.
More details awaited
Police did not comment on a possible motive and did not provide details on the conditions of the three victims who were hospitalised.
“Police are responding to shots fired in the food court of Cielo Vista Mall, scene still active. Avoid the area,” El Paso police said in a tweet.
“Mall scene is still active please avoid the area. Multiple agencies responding to the area,” read another tweet.
Close to 2019 shooting sight
The mall is adjacent to a Walmart where a mass shooting in 2019 killed 23 and left nearly two dozen more injured.
Law enforcement officers were called to the mall just after 5pm in response to reports of a shooting in the mall’s food court, local reports said. El Paso police have said that they will hold a second news briefing at 8pm local time.
Robert Gonzalez, an eye-witness in the mall, told CNN, “I saw people running to the exit.” He said he was able to make it safely to his car, where he was waiting to leave as he spoke with CNN.
Videos taken by Gonzalez show several mall storefronts closed with their security gates down and police parked outside.
