Canada highway crash: At least 15 people died in a Canadian highway crash in Manitoba on Thursday. Reuters reports that the crash happened after a semi-trailer truck collided with a bus at the junction of two major roads in southwestern Manitoba. Police say this is one of the worst highway crashes in Canada.
Eyewitnesses and rescue staff say that the bus was carrying 25 people, mainly seniors. They were headed to a casino in Cranberry, Manitoba when the crash happened.

Most of the passengers in the bus belonged to Dauphin.
The crash site is approximately 105 miles or 170 kilometres west of Winnipeg.
Assistant Commissioner Rob Hill who commands the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba said “We’ve been able to establish that at least 15 people have been confirmed deceased as a result of this collision.” While speaking at a televised news conference, Hill also said “Sadly, this is a day in Manitoba and across Canada that will be remembered as one of tragedy and incredible sadness.”
The drivers of both vehicles are alive but the police didn’t say who was at fault.
However, according to another news report, RCMP Rob Lasson said that preliminary investigation indicated that the truck driver hit the bus while he was changing lanes.

Trudeau mourns the deaths
Canadian Prime Minister expressed sadness over the incident. In a tweet, he said, “Deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today, and I’m keeping the injured in my thoughts. I cannot imagine the pain those affected are feeling.”
Bus passengers were disabled
Media reports have indicated that the bus passengers were disabled. The bus service was operated by Handi-Transit, a company that specialises in transporting the disabled.
The Winnipeg Free Press said that wheelchairs and crumpled walkers could be seen at the crash site.
