16 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in a blast in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka on Tuesday evening. The blast took place in a multi-storey building in Gulistan area of Dhaka. Due to this explosion, there is an atmosphere of panic in the whole area. Relief and rescue work is going on at the spot. The number of dead may increase. No official statement has come yet regarding the reason for the blast.
Three floors of a 7-storey building have been damaged in the blast in Siddiq Bazar. Some nearby buildings have also been damaged. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. According to local media reports, the blast took place at 4:50 pm on Tuesday. After the explosion, many fire engines have been put on the spot. According to the police, the injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
According to the news of ‘Dhaka Tribune’ newspaper, many people are feared trapped in the basement of the building. Bomb disposal squad of ‘Rapid Action Battalion’ has been dispatched to the spot to inspect the building.
Cause of explosion not known
Due to the explosion in the building, a bus standing on the roadside has also been damaged. Police said that rescue and security operations are going on at the spot. An official said that the explosion happened in a crowded market of Dhaka on Tuesday.
There are many stores in the building
According to the police, the treatment of the injured is going on in the emergency ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The building which has exploded has many stores on the ground floor and next to it is a branch of BRAC Bank.
