Titan submersible: The 19-year-old university student Suleman Dawood who accompanied his father Shehzada Dawood to explore the RMS Titanic wreckage had expressed his fears about the trip. According to an interview by Azmeh Dawood, older sister of Shehzada Dawood given to NBC News, she said that her nephew had informed a relative that he “wasn’t very up for it” and felt “terrified”. All five onboard passengers on Titan Submersible were killed in an implosion and Suleman was youngest of them. Stockton Rush, CEO of OceanGate and Titan’s pilot, British billionaire Hamish Harding and French explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet were the other onboard members of submerisable.
‘He was eager to please his dad‘
According to Suleman’s aunt Azmeh, her brother Shezada was always enthusiastic about the lore of RMS Titanic. Despite his initial hesitation Suleman boarded the submersible because he did not wish to disappoint his father. Even before the news of implosion came, Azmeh had said “I am thinking of Suleman, who is 19, in there, just perhaps gasping for breath … It’s been crippling, to be honest.” Dawoods are members of one of the most influential corporate family in Pakistan with Dawood Hercules Corp having foothold in agriculture, health and other industries.
The ‘catastrophic implosion’
On Thursday, the US Coastguard and OceanGate Expeditions confirmed that all 5 passengers had died after a ‘catastrophic implosion’. Part of submersible was found approximately 1,600ft from the wreck of RMS Titanic. The implosion of the submersible had happened on Sunday, the day expedition started and lost all contact. There is uncertainty over recovery of bodies as the nature of disaster and harsh depths of ocean pose challenge to carry out a successful operation.
