There has been an explosion in Turkey. The news of a bomb blast is coming from Taksim Square in the capital Istanbul. Six people have died in the blast. So far, information about the injuries of 53 people has also been received. The blast happened on Sunday in the busiest area of Istanbul.
A large number of people were present on this main pedestrian street. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the blast.
Ambulances and fire engines reached the spot after the blast. The police also started relief and rescue operations. The cause of the explosion is yet to be ascertained. The area has been evacuated after the blast. Shops have been closed in the area.
The number of those who lost their lives may increase
It is being told that many people are feared dead in the incident. In such a situation, the number of casualties may increase. Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said on Twitter that the explosion happened at 4:20 pm local time. Some people have died in the incident. Many have been injured. However, he did not specify the number of casualties.
Many videos are also going viral on social media. It is seen in the video that flames are coming out from the place of the blast. The explosion was loud in the video. After the blast, passers-by turned and started running.
The avenue is a busy thoroughfare popular with locals and tourists. There are many shops and restaurants here. Earlier also there were blasts in 2015 and 2017. It was claimed by the Islamic State and some Kurdish groups.
