Solomon Islands: Following two earthquakes on Tuesday afternoon, including one with a magnitude of 7.0 just off the southwest coast, authorities in the Solomon Islands said that no tsunami warning would be issued.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the first earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 km (9 miles), about 16 km (10 miles) southwest of the town of Malango. Its initial magnitude was 7.3.
After 30 minutes, a second earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 occurred nearby.

Country, not in danger from a tsunami
The country is not in danger from a tsunami, according to the Solomon Islands Meteorological Service, but it has issued a warning for unusual sea currents in coastal areas.
An employee said on social media that “people are also advised to be vigilant as aftershocks are expected to continue.”
All radio stations were off the air, according to a statement on Facebook from Solomon Islands Broadcasting, and widespread power outages have been reported across the island.

Reports of damage are still awaited
Although there have been reports of people feeling the earthquake, the National Disaster Management Office says it is still awaiting reports of damage.
According to Seismology Fiji, the nation’s archipelago 2000 km to the southeast was not immediately in danger from a tsunami as a result of the earthquake.
