King Charles III: Today’s coronation of Charles III will be the largest ceremonial event in Britain in seven decades. Millions will watch at home and throughout the world, and many are anticipated to queue the streets.
Apple’s Former Chief Designer Officer created the Coronation Emblem
King Charles III will be crowned alongside Queen Consort Camilla at Westminster Abbey, marking the forty-first Sovereign to receive the honour. Since William the Conqueror was crowned there in 1066, Westminster Abbey has served as the location for every coronation. King Charles III will don the 1661 St. Edward’s Crown at the Coronation service. Since King Charles II, the crown, which is composed of solid gold and weighs around 2.2kg, has been worn during the Coronation of every British king. Sir Jony Ive, a former Chief Design Officer at Apple, created the Coronation Emblem for the coronation of King Charles III.
First time a consort’s crown has been worn again since the 18th century
The distinction of becoming the youngest ruler in history belongs to Mary, Queen of Scots. When she was only six days old, she ascended to the throne and was crowned Queen in 1542. A momentous historical moment will occur at the approaching coronation ceremony when Queen Consort Camilla dons Queen Mary’s crown. This is the first time a consort’s crown has been worn again since the 18th century. Diamonds from Queen Elizabeth II’s personal jewellery collection will also be used to embellish the crown.
A Historic Symbol- The Stone of Scone
The Stone of Scone is one of the items that can be seen here and has a history that dates back almost a thousand years. In preparation for the coronation, it was recently transported from Scotland’s Edinburgh Castle to London. The two attached metal rings and various marks are on the 150 kg slab of red sandstone. The stone, also known as the Stone of Destiny, has long been found in Scotland and is revered as a sacred, illustrative representation of the country’s monarchy and national identity.
