Afghanistan: The Taliban has now issued another directive for Afghan women after banning them from Kabul’s theme parks on Wednesday. According to The Associated Press, women in Afghanistan will no longer utilise gyms.
An official in Kabul claims that since the Taliban came to power more than a year ago, they have been cracking down on women’s rights and freedoms, including banning women from using gyms in Afghanistan.

Why was the ban implemented?
According to a spokesperson for the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MPVPV), the ban was implemented because people were disobeying orders mandating gender segregation and because women were not donning the required headscarf, or hijab.
The Ministry of Virtue and Vice’s prohibition on women utilising gyms and parks, according to Mohammed Akef Mohajer, a Taliban-appointed spokesman for the organisation, “went into effect this week.”
He continued by saying that throughout the previous 15 months, the Taliban “did its best” to prevent closing parks and gyms to women by establishing distinct days for access for men and women.
However, Mohajer remarked, ““But, unfortunately, the orders were not obeyed and the rules were violated, and we had to close parks and gyms for women. In most cases, we have seen both men and women together in parks and, unfortunately, the hijab was not observed. So we had to come up with another decision and for now we ordered all parks and gyms to be closed for women.”

According to Mohammed Akef Mohajer, the theme parks and gyms will be observed to see if ladies are still visiting them.
Alison Davidian, the UN’s special representative for women in Afghanistan, denounced the restriction. She remarked, “This is yet another example of the Taliban’s continued and systematic erasure of women from public life.”
“We call on the Taliban to reinstate all rights and freedoms for women and girls,” she continued.
In 2021, the Taliban took over. Girls are not allowed to attend middle school or high school, and they must appear in public wearing clothes head-to-toe.
