PM Modi: US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti says Modi’s visit to the United States reflects a deep relationship between the two governments and peoples. Garcetti made these remarks in an interview to the Hindustan Times in Washington, D.C.
The ambassador was clear that PM Modi’s state visit to the US is making history. However, not many are able to feel the history that’s being created by Narendra Modi’s visit, Garcetti told the newspaper.
“This is one of those moments where you read the book backwards and you see those key moments in history. When you are living them that day, you don’t always feel it,” explained the ambassador in the interview.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his state visit to the US- his first- by attending the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations headquarters.
Irreversible momentum
Garcetti was confident that the Indo-US ties have hit an “irreversible momentum.” He said there were more than 100 deliverables from both sides that span in multiple directions. “We have more than 100. Not all of them will even be announced. They are so deep, it’s an all arena-partnership. It goes geographically from the ocean floor to the heavens. It goes on the horizontal axis across the Indo-Pacific. And it goes towards all the things that are important,” he elaborated.
Both countries are expected to collaborate on a broad range of areas like space, telecom and defence. Washington would also like to resolve some key trade-related issues that have remained unresolved since President Donald Trump.

“Not a relationship of convenience”
Ambassador Garcetti emphasized that the US-India relations were not driven by convenience. He explained, “It’s a relationship of true friendship”.
Both countries are members of QUAD, a four-member grouping that seeks to control China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region.
