Another Peegate like incident! US citizen creates ruckus on Air India flight, caught smoking in bathroom, arrested by Mumbai Police

Air India: Mumbai Police has arrested an Indian-origin-based US citizen for allegedly smoking in the bathroom while creating trouble for other passengers as well. He was on an Air India flight from London to Mumbai. Regarding the incident, the police have confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused, who has been identified as 37-year old Ramakant for doing so mid-flight on 11th of March.

Accused NRI taken into custody

As soon as the flight landed in Mumbai, the police took him into custody and charged multiple sections of IPC on him. The incident has also sparked a cause of worry amongst passengers and crew members for safety and security. Authorities have also prompted to take an action soon and ensure that this kind of incident does not get repeated.

Speaking on the incident, a crew member said, “Smoking is not allowed on the flight but as he went to the bathroom the alarm started to ring and when we all crew ran towards the bathroom saw he had a cigarette in his hand. We immediately threw the cigarette from his hand. Then Ramakant started shouting at all our crew members. Somehow we took him to his seat. But after some time he tried to open the door of the aircraft. All the passengers got scared because of his behaviour and he started acting gimmick on the flight. He was not ready to listen to us and was shouting. Then we tied his hands and legs and made him sit on the seat.”

Charges filed against the accused

According to the authorities, the case has been registered against the accused under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 336, which deals with acts that endanger human life or personal safety, and the Aircraft Act of 1937, which includes sections 22 (refusal to follow lawful instructions of the Pilot-in-Command), 23 (assault and other acts that jeopardize safety or order), and 25 (smoking).
