The US has considered the McMahon Line dividing China and Arunachal Pradesh as the international border. A bipartisan resolution has been introduced in the US Parliament on this issue, in which Arunachal Pradesh is considered an integral part of India. MPs Bill Haggerty and Jeff Markle, who introduced the proposal, said that ‘when China continues to be a challenge to the open and free Indian Pacific Ocean. In such a situation, it is necessary that America stands shoulder to shoulder with its strategic partners, especially with India.’
Criticized China’s military action
This bilateral resolution of the US Parliament has considered Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India and criticized China’s military action and efforts to change the status quo on the LAC. The proposal also talked about strengthening the strategic partnership between the US-India and increasing cooperation in the Quad. This proposal of the US Parliament has come at a time when there have been violent clashes between the soldiers of China and the soldiers of India in the eastern sector of LAC.
America’s emphasis on strengthening relations with India
It has been said in the resolution that America considers Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India and not of China. US lawmakers also criticized China’s attempts to change the status quo on the LAC with military force, China’s establishment of villages at disputed sites and India’s showing Arunachal Pradesh as its own in China’s map. Along with this, China’s claim in Bhutan’s border has also been criticized. In this resolution jointly presented by both the parties of the US House, India’s stand has also been praised in protest against China’s provocative action and emphasis has also been laid on strengthening technical and economic relations with India.
