An Australian sailor who was stranded in the sea with his dog was rescued by a helicopter. The duo were on a 6,000 kilometres voyage from La Paz, Mexico to French Polynesia. La Paz is situated in northwestern Mexico.

Damaged by a storm

According to The Guardian, Tim Shaddock, 51, and his dog Bella were surviving on rainwater and fish when they were rescued by a helicopter.

The helicopter was searching for a Mexican fishing trawler.

Shaddock’s catamaran was damaged by a storm weeks after it set off from La Paz. He and his dog had to stay under a canopy to protect themselves from the sun.

A catamaran is a fishing boat with two hulls. Because it is stable in design, many people use this boat for fishing or long expeditions. The hull is the main body of the boat.

The condition of the sailor is normal but he has to eat small meals for sometime. Shaddock and his dog were rescued on July 12.

‘God is great’

A footage of Shaddock, which was obtained by 9News showed that he was doing fine. The Australian sailor had developed a small beard during his time at sea.

The 9News post said, “The tuna boat ‘MARA DELIA’ of the marindustrias company has just rescued a castaway after three months adrift. There is no doubt God is great,”

Shaddock was quoted by The Guardian as saying, “I’ve been through a very difficult ordeal at sea and I’m just needing rest and good food because I’ve been alone at sea for a long time … I have not had enough food for a long time. … I have very good medicine, I’m being looked after very well.”

He also said, “I’ve just got fishing gear, survival gear.”
