Bangladesh's Interim Leader Muhammad Yunus Addresses Concerns Over Attacks on Hindus, Urges India to Strengthen Ties Amid Political Turmoil.

Muhammad Yunus: The situation has gotten serious after Bangladesh‘s political unrest. Violent demonstrators started attacks against Bangladesh’s minority Hindu population following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the coup that followed. The attacks on minority Hindus have alarmed the Indian government, which has urged Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, to take decisive action to resolve the issue.

In the wake of India’s concerns and the headlines focusing on the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, a statement from Muhammad Yunus, the interim chief of the Bangladeshi government, has now surfaced. Yunus sent a message to India, asserting that Bangladesh is not going to turn into Afghanistan. His bold statement has garnered significant attention.

Muhammad Yunus’ Message

Muhammad Yunus, who has taken over as the head of the interim administration, issued a special statement about the attacks on Hindu minorities after Sheikh Hasina resigned following the coup. He offered assurance that Bangladesh is not headed towards imitating Afghanistan. Yunus asked the Indian government to get past the narratives of the present and work towards deeper relations with Bangladesh.

Muhammad Yunus also clarified that the notion that “Bangladesh can only be safe under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership” is incorrect. He argued that the attacks on minorities after the coup have been exaggerated, which has strained relations between the two countries. Yunus emphasized the need to work towards improving relations and overcoming these tensions.

Criticism of Sheikh Hasina

In an interview in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, Muhammad Yunus took a dig at former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He stated that Hasina, by making political statements about Bangladesh from India, is not helping the situation. According to Yunus, Hasina should “keep her mouth shut” to preserve harmony between the two nations. He also mentioned that the interim government would request India for her extradition.
